This painting depicts a derelict boat. The boat is stranded on the sea bed or on the beach. Bold shades of yellow and orange are used in this painting to depict a desolate lifeless landscape.
Most importantly this painting can be seen as a philosophical look at whats left of life. After its triumphs and defeat, its accomplishments and losses. Therefore the broken boat is a simple yet powerful metaphor for dreams and hopes which is set against the forces of nature.
Bikas Mukherjee (born 1951) went to Art college in Kolkata. Because of his training as a Print maker under Carole Summers his paintings are known for their simple shapes. Above all his paintings are known for their bold colours, outlandish proportions and naive style like simplicity
